Tribute to Merle Trott - April 18, 2011

The band played a tribute to Merle Trott at his calibration for life on Sunday. Here is a like to a news story on the event.

Merle Trott Remembered - April 5, 2011

Merle Trott was a true supporter of the Dunlap Highland Band; as a father, as a grandfather, as a friend. Along every parade route and at many practices, Merle was there with a word of encouragement and support. One of the band’s biggest boosters, Merle was quick to say, without the slightest tinge of prejudice whatsoever, that Dunlap was the best looking and best sounding pipe band around. After a long struggle with deteriorating health, Merle has passed over to the other side where no doubt his keen ear for rhythm is being put to good use helping the band of angels with their cadence. That is good for Merle, and good for the angels. But for those of us left behind there is a hole that will remain unfilled. The familiar wave, the nod, the salute along parade routes will be looked for. And missed greatly. When we offer a musical tribute to this good man at the Celebration of his Life on April 17, it will be with a sense of loss and respect, but also one of thankfulness that he was one of us in significant and important ways.
